The new Salt Lake County Fleet Maintenance Building replaces the existing heavy duty shop and administration facilities that have been deemed inadequate due to their inability to serve current function of the County Fleet department, in addition to mechanical and structural issues. The new facility features a 34,000 square foot 20 bay service shop and vehicle parts storage area, and a 6,500 square foot administrative area. Conceptually, the design takes inspiration from “muscle” cars of the 1970’s, which are a beautiful example of a marriage between heavy internal machinery and a sleek external skin.
