The Marmalade District of Salt Lake City has undergone a transformation in recent years with an influx of new retail, housing, and an interest from an increasingly young and diverse demographic group. This revival made the area a prime candidate for a branch library of the Salt Lake City Library system. Taking a cue from this transitional phase of the district, the design team sought to create a material palette that embodied the evolution and diversity of the Marmalade District. This 19,000 SF library is the beginning of a phased block development that will include mixed use housing and retail component, along with an outdoor park amenity. Completed in 2016, the project is anticipated to achieve LEED Silver certification.
