Fire Station 03, sited adjacent to the historic Forest Dale Golf Course in the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City, is a 17,800 square foot dual-company facility designed to meet Net-zero energy standards. The design is intended to provide a complementary counterpoint to the existing historic golf course and clubhouse that will harmonize with its site over time. The structure will include a 3-bay apparatus garage and living quarters to house 11 firefighters. A 2nd floor 50-person multi-purpose room provides space for employee training and community gathering. Amenities include an exercise room, a 2nd floor exterior roof deck, a full service commercial kitchen and a gardening area. As a Net-zero energy facility, the design incorporates a variety of techniques, including geothermal mechanical systems, photovoltaic power supply, a super-insulated envelope and passive design strategies.
